mEducation Alliance

In the summer of 2022, I had the opportunity to work with mEducation Alliance, an EdTech non-profit based in Washington, D.C. that promotes the role of technology in education and serves as a convening platform for EdTech alliance members worldwide.

If you would like to learn more about mEducation Alliance, you can find them here

Over the summer, I worked with the team full-time on many activities, but mainly on the biweekly eNewsletter, graphics to promote the Wondrous Learning Center, and a program with Afghan Refugee Children through the International Rescue Committee (IRC). In the following months, I helped create materials to promote their annual symposium.

Below I have highlighted some of the work I created while working with them.

eNewsletter

I developed many editions of the eNewsletter, one of the first being the 50th issue. Using MailChimp I added information across each week for delivery biweekly. If you would like to see the 50th issue, you can find it using the button below.

Additionally, I analyzed eNewsletter data and presented it to the team at the end of the summer to provide insights on how they may best optimize and utilize their eNews.

Wondrous Learning Center

A s I began my time with the organization, the Wondrous Learning Center was launched in Riverdale, Maryland.

There was an opportunity for the organization to present to the community at a meeting and introduce what the Wondrous Learning Center was. I was asked to make a graphic to represent the building, some of the activities, and their relevance to the community.

Featuring an image of the building in the center and activities surrounding it to build excitement about the events that would be held, the background and font were chosen to tie into the slide deck this was to be embedded in.

At the end of the summer, mEducation Alliance, in Metamorphosis Community Project and Rotary, hosted the Wondrous Learning Neighborhood Festival for the surrounding neighborhoods and apartments, to celebrate the launch of the center.

I began with the English flyer and expanded to the Spanish version and the version with Dari and Pashto - translated by a native speaker.

There is a large population of refugees in the area who speak Dari and Pashto. By creating the three versions of the flyer, and distributing it to nearby apartments, we were able to ensure that as many people as possible, regardless of their English proficiency, were able to be invited.

Symposium

mEducation Alliance hosts an annual symposium in which EdTech professionals from around the world gather to network and learn ways to improve learning and teaching worldwide. For the 2022 symposium, I created some marketing material, as well as some things to be displayed at the event.  I was asked to create graphics to be used on the Symposium web page to add visual interest. They were looking for something to represent the different tracks. I originally drafted up the graphics to the right.

Three potential graphics, one being horizontal with "Wondrous Learning is..." across the top on cloudy background, with 4 different colored circles for different tracks. The second is similar but square. The final is a circle with a cloudy background, "Wondrous Learning Is" arced across the top, with the track name in the middle.

We ultimately decided upon the "buttons" - they worked well individually and were versatile. I experimented with color for the "Wondrous Learning Is" as there was the desire for a more "playful" look, however, we found that this yellow and orange worked best with the existing banner they had from an original artist, as well as readability.

I was consistently creating new buttons as the symposium gained new sponsors and tracks, and these were highlighted on the Symposium webpage and at the Symposium itself.

Finally, they were looking to create a "Wonder Wall" that could be used for Symposium attendees to take pictures with, as well as an opportunity for attendees to write prompts on sticky notes to stick onto this retractable banner.

The image used in the Symposium banner used for marketing was unable to be blown up to that scale, so instead I kept with the sky theme, but instead made clouds that were simple and not too distracting.
